Listen Very Carefully (ISBN 978 0 9546023 9 0) Listening is the most important of the four language skills and the key to moving forward in language learning. It is often neglected because there is little relevant listening material available for ESOL learners.
The book or worksheets (if they are printed as needed) does not demand high level reading skills. Included is listening for times, prices, spelling of names as well as station announcements and voicemail messages.
There are 32 exercises. The easiest exercises ask the listener to listen and choose one out of four examples they have heard. Harder exercises require the listener to write very brief records of what they have heard. Most of the exercises consist of very short words or phrases. In the later exercises the listener needs to write two or three pieces of information in the right place. Each exercise should be about the right length of task for use as part of one lesson.
The audio CD uses two male and two female voices. There is no repetition of the recording. Tutors may need to present an exercise two or three or more times for students to listen with all their concentration.
 The data CD has the text element of the exercises. The format is A4. The worksheets can be printed an exercise at a time or assembled together as a photocopiable book.
The audio scripts are included in a section after the exercises. They can be used by students to check their answers. They can also be used by tutors as a template to expand the tasks.
