Hear hear dialogues (ISBN 978 0 9546023 0 7) are listening materials for adult beginners. They support the English national curriculum (ESOL/basic skills reading and listening) at pre-entry and entry 1 level. They help learners to listen for gist, detail and speaker attitude.
Off-beat conversations for ESOL learners are intended to contrast with the usual fare of standard well-behaved transactions in shops and surgeries. Sentences are simple but do not shy away from introducing past tense and future forms for recognition ahead of later formal practice. Because students always want to receive the text of any listening task the dialogue scripts are each produced over 2 pages and can be used for paired reading.
The data CD includes:
 16 dialogues, each produced across two A4 pages for printing and copying as learner reading sheets

Sample extension exercises (eg gap fill, wordsearch, computer based comprehension tasks)
Word bank label files (for creating card index word banks)
The audio cassette
Each dialogue is presented twice - by two pairs of voices. The tutor may prefer to introduce the dialogues initially, setting the scene and either acting both parts or enlisting the help of a classroom assistant.
