This resource is for beginners who may not be able to read more than one or two sentences or just a short paragraph. There is a limited amount of hard information that can be conveyed at this level and there is a danger of overloading students with facts which may not be particularly useful in future.
The CD presents summary information in colour posters (pdf files) for classroom or corridor displays. The format is A3 and the posters are best reproduced on matt heavyweight paper (and laminated). These can be displayed on a special Citizenship noticeboard or in a corridor (a few at a time).
There are also 14 EXAMPLE resources which can be used to stimulate a range of speaking and writing tasks.
The biggest section is WORKSHEETS (45 files). Some of these are very easy indeed and suited to students with little or no literacy skills in English. Some demand the ability to read short sentences. The materials are intended to complement the published DFES Citizenship resources especially for the lower levels of ESOL learners.
 Three short READERS have been included. These can be produced as stapled A5 booklets (printed right side only) on a fast photocopier. One (Pancakes) is from the Language Post listen-and-read publication Hear hear readers and one (Mother’s Day) from Hear more readers.
